Students of St. Joseph HSS are listening the lecture attentively.

A Seminar on the Popularization of Astronomy was held on 27 June, 2009 in St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was jointly organized by Bangladesh Astronomical Society and Scintilla Science Club aimed at encouraging students towards Astronomy and Space Science. Mr. F R Sarker, General Secretary of Bangladesh Astronomical Society and National Node for IYA2009 in Bangladesh delivered his lecture outlining the importance of the study of Astronomy and the objective of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. Then there was a Question-Answer

F R Sarker is giving the Answers of various Questions on Astronomy and Space coming from the student.

Session in which students asked several questions on Astronomy and Space Science and F R Sarker replied to their questions. After the Question-Answer Session, Mr. Sarker demonstrated the Flight technology with Air and Balloon Rockets which the students enjoyed with thrill and excitement. Then a Space Video Show was held where videos on Apollo-11, the First Manned Moon Landing, The First Zero Gravity Flight from Bangladesh and others Space videos were displayed. Club, Mizamur Rahman - Lecturer of Biology Department of the School (Higher Secondary level), Astronomy enthusiast Jitu, and other teachers of the school were present in the Seminar. The last attraction of the Seminar was an enthusiastic outdoor program that was Water Rocket Launching event, Mr. M. A. Sharif, Coordinator of IYA 2009 for Bangladesh conducted this event. Students, Teachers, Guardians, Astronomy Activists, Club members and the general people all were elated and enjoyed by this event and the students were very much joyous to see and catch the falling Rockets.
